No place like home

So, to recap, over 2 months ago we stopped looking in Lewes, told Dan at Fox and Sons that we were looking in Polegate and waved goodbye to his only slightly estate agenty visage. Since then we haven't seen him, we've looked in Polegate, not really found what we were after and got gradually less and less enthusiastic about moving away from Lewes, about J having to commute again, after getting used to a 10-minute walk to and from work, about missing the November 5th madness, the castle, the various friends and groups, the stream that has only just started to flow again next to our street, the walk to 'Big Hill' that F loves, the bridle path behind the house and the park that has got new equipment in.
So on Wednesday morning as J was leaving, we had one of those doorstep chats that you have that you really should have found a better time and place for, and both agreed that, after all, we would rather stay in Lewes, however long it took to find somewhere suitable within our budget. Having said that, J went off to work.
That evening, as he arrived home, who did he see but Dan, who stopped for a chat and said he was there to look at a property in our street, ready for viewings the next day.
And that's how we came to put an offer in on a house 5 doors up from ours, a mirror image of ours. We can just about afford it, it's dated and not that well looked after, but chain-free! So we are now embarked on the bizarre and arcane process of buying it.
